The Dance Studies Association provided an opportunity for me to work with colleagues Melanie Kloetzel, Alana Gerecke and Vicky Hunter in hosting a ‘hub’ called ‘Dance, Anti-colonialism and Place-Based Praxis’. This hub met three times for 1.5 hours during the DSA conference and was a most extraordinary gathering of people interested in the topic. While working virtually and in-person, as well as attending to some of the ‘challenges’ of the conference as a whole, the hub offered us space to ‘stay with the trouble’, to sit in the discomfort and silence of not knowing, to acknowledge ruptures, and to find our own processes for articulations. And from those moments of being together arose beautiful stories and sharings of our place-based praxis. I appreciate deeply all those who contributed.
My photos are of the place, K’emk’emeláy (Vancouver) – the home of Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples.
